As Some of you already Know, I do build Mechanical Keyboards. I used to be the Guy who would just commission them. My Love For Mechanical Keyboards started with the Scarra Build by Nathan "TaehaTypes".
So that year, In 2019, when I started watching Twitch, and had seen the Scarra build on YouTube and Twitter, as well as IG; that's the year I got to Meet Nathan at TwitchCon, as well as Harris Heller, and Peter Park TV. My love for Mechanical Keyboards only grew from there. I recently received my PixelSpace 80 Mecha Purple w/ Green accents. And I'm waiting on my my Protozoa Glitch TKL to arrive (at the time of writing this post).
its Now 2021, I commissioned my first Custom Keyboard, ironically as a gift for my dad, before my relationship with him went south. and my Second Custom Keyboard for myself. Eventually I got into building keyboards, and have enjoyed the Hobby so much, I wish to continue.
I get a Lot of People may be new to the Hobby and not know where to start, with this first post I would like to make it easier. As Well as including Affiliate Links for where to get products, they do also help support the content (Twitch Stream, Blog, Youtube, etc).
If you're getting into the Hobby for the first time, I recommend starting with Hot-Swap Board, such as a GMMK Pro, or and of KBDFans boards that have a Hot-Swap PCB version. KBD Fans typically offers both Hot-Swapped and Soldered versions of they PCBs (the heart of your mechanical keyboard). A Hot-Swap PCB will allow you to just push in the Switch in the slot. Some are 3 hole slots and some are 5 hole slots, you can also trim of the plastic legs of 5 leg switches to make them 3 leg. I suggest trimming them with wire cutters. Do Not Trim the Metal Legs, the metal legs make the switch part of the circuit. By the time you get to Nicer Keyboards, and Group buys, if group buys have a soldered option, that is what You'll want to go with for the longevity of the board. Before you do that I recommend learning to solder, if you don't know already, and practicing soldering whatever are the most readily available 60% PCBs, with the cheapest switches you can find, until you're accustomed to soldering. -iFixIT Mako Screw Driver Kit: https://amzn.to/3rzTQLx For Hot-Swap Boards its a lot Simpler, I can just Link Hot-Swap Kits, you may or May not still need a screw driver set.
